THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER - SAMPLER (POST PUNK, RELEASED INDEPENDENTLY, AUG 29TH, REVIEW)

Image
On the first listen, Bog didn't really feel the sampler, but it has grown on Bog, and it does turn into an infectious piece of music. It was an interesting journey with The Hangman's Daughter, and Bog likes it when something completely flips him from his initial reaction.  With that said, the sampler is super chill, so for those expecting ultra heavy music, or something that is going to make you shiver furiously, then this might not be for you, but if you can give it a chance, and appreciate relaxing, but catchy melodies, then The Hangman's Daughter would be an artist Bog recommends. There are other influences outside of the obvious goth vocals and bands like The Cure, such as horror punk (Bog could hear it on Serafina Who Knows). From what Bog can gather, the sampler is a collection of recent tracks spanning the last few years.  Dive is mega chill, but yet has excellent audio and mastering to give it an extra edge, but not sacrificing the lo-fi essence to lose the heart of...

PALE HORSE RITUAL - DIABOLIC FORMATION (DOOM METAL, BLACK THRONE PRODUCTIONS, RELEASED NOV 28TH, REVIEW)

Image
Diabolic Formation is the forthcoming album from Doomsters 'Pale Horse Ritual' and Bog had a fun time with this album. Doom cat dancing in the bogs and generally throwing mud water around whilst partaking in my daily bathing ritual. One thing Bog would like to comment on is the album cover above. It sets the feel and tone of the album, and is a definite homage to the classic old school horror and early wave of heavy metal from those eras, thus resonates a cinematic aesthetic with the fonts used for the band's name and album title. Bog feels this is a good way to draw in the listeners, it's like the opening credits for a movie and has the audience expecting and anticipating. Musically, Diabolic Formation is an enjoyable listen that certainly could be built upon further with future releases. Bog would recommend this for ffo of doom metal, traditional heavy metal, and possibly horror punk, even though the pace is slower, but there are similar concepts. Sometimes, you do ge...

VOID EMPEROR - MARAUDERS (DOOM/SLUDGE/HEAVY METAL, RELEASED, JULY 7TH) (REVIEW)

Image
Bog knew this was going to be special when the opening track "The Cimmerian" opened with battle horns and homages to all things barbarian, which are continued throughout. Bog stopped Bogging and imagined thyself in another world, another time, when not ensnared by the trappings of the Bog Lands. I saw myself as The Cimmerian, running, steel in hand, to beat back all who dare defy Bognan the Bogarian. Superb introductory track with nice war vocals, but vocalist Dezmodeus goes nicely between clean and unclean, melding the process together to carry the atmosphere within Marauders. Bog wonders if the guys are also fans of Warhammer, Chaos Marauders, and such. It's been a while since Bog was chased out of that realm for excessive Bog pooping in a Chaos Lord's bone palace. All I can remember were the bones, and the PR department arguing about how can they keep promoting Chaos effectively when the price of an army costs more than a US aircraft carrier. Bog had been drinkin...

FERAL STATE - II (D-BEAT/HARDCORE PUNK) (ROAD TO MASOCHIST, RELEASED 26.09.25) (REVIEW)

Image
Dude!!!! If you like Flyblown, Per Capita, War Victims, EXT, etc, and so many more, then Bogs just jump into Feral State’s II. Has to be one of Bog’s personal favorite submissions received in a long, long time. This is full Bog, full blown Bog, Bog. What Bog likes about II is it has the raw sound, which we love with punk and hardcore, but it hasn’t been polished too much, so the ferocity and authentic sewer sounds remains. If you dig the raw, feel the energy, and just want to bounce around from wall to wall, get on this asap. If you are worried about damaging yourself, just put up a few mattresses, then bounce from pillar to pillar in complete joy.  A complete stench raw noise journey that cannot be recommended enough. Ok, quick breakdown. Vocals are nice and angry, but with the classic punk rage to flow with the gutter d-beat stench that is prevalent. Speed, pace, riffs, and change in speeds work nicely accompanied by the drums. For those that prefer less of an onslaught on ...
