ERNTE - ALBSEGEN (VENDETTA RECORDS, RELEASED 4/7/23) (BLACK METAL)

Another from Bog pool archives. Black Metal vocals are always good for dropping on harsh and fast beats. Makes for an interesting mix, but digressing aside, Bog has spewed forth an updated post below. Originally posted around May, 2023.

One of the obvious qualities with Ernte's Albsegen is a moody gloomy essence, which provides the music with some substance. Bog has said it before about bands who do this, but it’s cinematic and almost like a soundtrack.

Vocally, superbly melds with the music and atmosphere extremely well, and the timing was never off. Bog likes the way Witch N delivers them, like a priestess from one of those fantasy movies. Bog means this in a good way. Bog isn't aware if the members are in any other bands, but it’s obvious both draw from a wide spectrum. Witch N would be good in a thrash band for sure.

Ok, the next factor would be the musicianship. Both Witch N and V. Noir play their instruments to a high standard and it shines throughout the album from both guitars and riffs, drums, and all related sounds. The transitions and flow are also extremely on point and support the level of playing ability.

The production has really elevated the mood and tone. As mentioned earlier, a cinematic essence is present within the music, and in particular on Queen Warrior, which is a reference to the composition of the music. Greg Chandler of Priory Recording Studios has obviously wanted to preserve Ernte's vision.

The mood. The dark tone and primeval spirit are freely expressed throughout, but with notable mellow sections and underscores. Think of going to watch a horror musical, or a play at the theater. Dracula for example, you would expect a certain accompanying mood or it wouldn't work.

Rating: Although I didn't like every song, Albsegen is no doubt a highly crafted and orchestrated piece of music. Bog would still recommend the album. There are expertly woven songs with incredible atmospheric moods offering a great deal of escapism for the listener.
