IAMINPERFECT - 'GHOSTS' EP, (RELEASED MAY 8TH, DARK ELECTRO, REVIEW)
1. Surviving Is Not Living. Synth arrangements, melodic guitars parts straight from prog/melodic tones, with a small trace of Industrial Rock. Breakdown to go into an almost dark synth passage, which wouldn't be far away from a lighter cyberpunk injection. Intentionally harmonious with Electro coming towards the end of the track. Subtle use of atmosphere, also holds and grabs the listeners attention, possibly stimulating them to relate to the lyrical concepts. A little gentle for Bog’s flavor, but the music has been layered, mixed, contextualized, and presented very well. It’s not horrible by any measure and those who are fans of slow melancholy electro will feel it. Good vocal ranges to match the emotive feel.
2. The Fallen. Very futuristic electro synth feels and we
can see a sky car flying past a skyscraper whilst The Fallen blasts out the
sound system. The background melody serves as the foundation, helping generate
the vibe of the track, harmonic, and it’s hard not to see neon lights whilst listening.
The drum pattern is interesting concerning the timing and
loop. Bog had difficulty mentioning the other components of the track, because their ears kept honing in on the drums to scope them out. What they could recognize, a
slower stripped down DnB beat that could easily be hastened to form a fuller core component in that genre. It was problematic for Bog to deactivate their mind
from the beat, kept counting in my head. Hard habit to turn off. The Fallen is
an enjoyable listen and is both futuristic, emotive with vocals again, and Bog likes how they arranged the composition, which does give the feels as evident
from Bog counting the beat tempo, and thinking how it could be used. It’s just
a nice listen, sci-fi Synthy feels with the same Electro and softer Industrial Rock riffs, and tones evolving from the opening track.
Production and audio seem tight so far, can hear when a piece starts, fades, and returns. It isn’t clumsy or randomly interjected together.
3. Conversion Therapy. The intro begins with a Synth Electro
feel, neon lights are back in Bog’s mind, but guitar riffing is stronger on
this track showing some other tastes outside of those we can hear. Made for a
good opening and there are steady drums, which are like a slow Darkwave/EBM beat. Think of a slowed stompy beat, which caused Bog
to count in his head again. The outro, a good way to close the track with the other
instruments and vocals stopping, so the beat is utilized to take us out with a
kickback/repeat, maybe. It pauses the sound, subtly transitions
into the next track’s starting point/introduction. It’s like when you kick off
the drums, bass, or stop the vox in a set, reminded Bog of that kind of thing.
4. Solitary Shell. Interesting intro morphing into another Electro Synthy feel before a pause, then the vocals arrive, which are clear throughout the EP. It's a very conscious piece of music, which lyrically
the audience should be able to relate with. The guitar work is more present,
there are subtle drum beats, pauses, switchbacks, and the riffs also run in the
background on some beat patterns, then can return to function at the front
again, adding a punching quality for the chorus, or the next particular section.
Bog didn’t really feel Solitary Shell,
but we did observe how the outro quietly fades in a solitary pattern matching the
title of the track, which was a subtle factor, and Bog thought that was pretty
cool.
5. Ghosts Of The Past. Probably the slowest track on Ghosts and is a ballad. Bog didn’t enjoy this one, but let’s explore the track further. It's very harmonious with somber emotion and obvious deep feeling, and clearly, the lyrical concepts are important to the IAMINPERFECT, which does shine in the song.
Vocally, the message is delivered articulately for the ears, and there are
parts where they are emphasized to bring in the guitar solo, which is good, and
leans more to the metal side of things outside the industrial spectrum. Another
subtle closing outro, in our humble opinion it's probably the most goth
sounding of the tracks. Piano arrangements also complement the concept and
tone, generating a particular mood.
Audio quality was solid from start to finish, and was
maintained. The listener can distinguish each section, and there is enough to
hook fans who dive much deeper into the genre, and are passionate followers of
the style.
Rating: Although the tracks Bog enjoyed were The Fallen and Conversion Therapy, the GHOSTS wasn’t a horrible listen. Bog didn’t quite feel the other tracks, but we have attempted to make y’all aware of the work and effort invested in the music, and what we could hear, and what was done well, and is good for fans of the artist and genre.
Earlier, Bog mentioned some of beat patterns, and
problems I had with stopping counting in my head, but stretching this wider, maybe,
Trip Hop fans would also possibly vibe with IAMPERFECT, because Bog was reminded of the lighter melancholy aspects of the genre. Fans of softer Darkwave, Goth, Synth, and Electro should warmly appreciate GHOSTS. It's a very
introspective and reflective EP, which is maybe why Bog can only listen to
softer parts of this style for shorter periods, because it can become a little
depressing, but to be fair, IAMINPERFECT balance the length well to avoid this
becoming a problem. Bog didn’t find it a hard listen, or bad, just preferred the feel and sound of tracks 2 and 3, which outshined
the other tracks for Bog’s muddy ears.
