IRON WIND - FEAR THE SHOGUN PART 1: (UNDERGROUND/REAL HIP HOP, INDEPENDENTLY RELEASED JAN 22, 2026, REVIEW)
It's been some time since Bog posted underground hip hop, but Iron Wind does a nice job of integrating themed Japanese influences paying homage to Feudal Japan. Both musically and lyrically, this is a nice take providing an alternative with a substance rooted in an ancient culture.
The sampling is excellent, it's as if the Samurai are marching along to the beats or a master is demonstrating a sword dance. Iron Wind MC's in a story telling pattern of for that era he is drawing from, which is ideal, and authenticates the homage to the culture he clearly loves.
Here are some of the stand outs, but there isn't really a bad track, think of it is a real hip hop story concerning Feudal Japan.
The stand out fire tracks:
*Fear The Shogun
* Shadows of War: The sample and big beat on this track. I implore you to listen. Referencing Samurai and so much more. Imagine boom bap fused with the soul of Japan. Special, very special.
* Hidden Fortress - Named after the movie, a classic.
*Invincible - Good pairing with guest MCs to present a raw track utilizing different deliveries. The vocal projection is also good.
* Dagger Blood - Good scratching samples.
Others: Hara Kiri, Honor, and War Scrolls.
Mad, mad, mad props to Iron Wind. Bog tucks his tummy in and bows to you!
There is a follow up release, which Bog will dive into soon, but you can listen to the tracks on Bandcamp, and it would be a worthy addition to your music collection.
