(MUCK POOL NEWS) KUUMET – “NEVER ENOUGH” (PROGRESSIVE ROCK)
Finnish progressive rock group KUUMET has released “Never
Enough,” the final single and music video from their upcoming debut album,
Nova. The album is scheduled for release on November 27, 2026.
Song Concept and Visual Inspiration:
Thematic Grounding: The track handles heavy personal
subject matter, drawing heavily from 1990s sonic and visual aesthetics.
The Music Video: The video was filmed inside a sawmill office building abandoned 50 years ago on an island near Oulu. It features the "LightBar" (2023) installations by light artist Timo Remes. The project was shot by aurora borealis photographer Hannu Tiainen and edited by Milla Tiainen.
Band Quotes:
Vocalist Anna-Kaisa Kettunen states: "When Jussi
Moilanen brought this song to the band, the melody and lyrics immediately
started playing in my head. Once the lyrics were finished, we refined the
melody with Matti Mielikäinen, and the song took its final shape together with
the band. I’m a big Skunk Anansie fan, and I think that comes through here. The
lyrics are for all of us who have suffered because a loved one has struggled
with substance abuse or mental health issues."
Guitarist Jussi Moilanen states: "The influences
behind the track were diverse. A 7/8 time signature was chosen for its drive
and groove. In the intro riff—the leitmotif—of 'Never Enough,' one can hear
guitar work reminiscent of Alice in Chains, while the middle section has a
Radiohead-esque quality. For the direction of the video—much like for the
lyrics—I drew inspiration from Skunk Anansie. The off-kilter aesthetic of the
band’s videos, particularly those for 'Weak' and 'Charlie Big Potato,' really
resonated with me back in the day. Certain scenes also brought to mind
Madonna’s 'Human Nature' and Marilyn Manson’s 'The Beautiful People.'"
About the Band and Album:
Formed in 2019 following a tribute show for a Finnish progressive rock icon, Kuumet was established by drummer Vesa Ranta (ex-Sentenced, The Abbey, Cemetery Skyline). The lineup features musicians from Oulu-based acts such as The Aeon, THJKB, and Hietaketu. Melodically, the band blends the sprawling structures of 1970s progressive rock with 1990s alternative heavy rock. Their debut full-length record, Nova, explores themes of modern existential struggle, addiction, and dystopia contrasted against themes of hope and renewal.
