(BOG REVIEW) - 'THE AEONS TORN' - 'RITE OF DREAD' (LOVECRAFTIAN BLACK METAL) (FIRST SINGLE FROM "VOID ARTEFAKKTS, RELEASED NOV 27, 2026)

Image
"Rite of Dread" from 0:00-0:17 opens up with a dredging churn that builds into the vocal drop at 0:17, which immediately takes the listener into an atmospheric and immersive world. Sonically, what helps is the pace of the drum beats that sync with the lead guitar notes in a consistent tempo. It's a good foundation because the instruments are counting down to the next drop, supported by the vocals that are in partnership. Bog could hear each verse delivered, timed, and layered on the guitars and drums very well. The arrangement in this section is thoroughly coordinated. 0:33-0:34 is one of Bog's favorite parts on the track because of the momentary pause with an effect Bog's muck-filled mind is trying to recall, but has gone blank! Super convenient. Bog has mentioned timing; well, there was bad timing on Bog's part during this review as the name has escaped him into the void. The transition from 0:34-0:52 features a strong signature guitar riff that appears th...

(BOG REVIEW) JOTUNGRAV (PROGESSIVE FOLK/BLACK METAL) - ELEGI (RELEASED AUGUST 20TH, INVERSE RECORDS)

Disclaimer: Bog is dealing with extreme weather patterns in the Bog Lands, so our usual deep dive approach is on the shelf until the storms subside. Another release Bog would normally wade deep in the swamp with, but a shorter approach for now whilst those storms hit the Bog Lands! Excellent atmospheric mixture of folk, prog, and black metal themed around Norse culture.  Timed riffs and drums, differing vocal ranges, and EQs all mixed well and balanced to help deliver a musical journey.  Bog's Thoughts: The track lengths are long, so probably not for those that want an all-out wall of noise, or just non-stop headbanging, but Elegi is a balanced listen offering a wide palette. MUCK SCROLLS PT 12 - ASPHAGOR - PYROGENESIS (BLACK METAL, REVIEW) - (MDD RECORDS, RELEASED 2023)

Image
Muck Scrolls They are super short bog spews from the muck revolving around bands/artists early releases. Some of which may no longer be active, but the bogs spat them out to be shared. *Short overviews, not so much on the deep dive side or audio commentary* #smashthegate #marchto200 #bogwakes #gatheringthetribes #bogstenchmare The intro track Ex Cathedra was cool and features a slow atmospheric build up to something ominous.  Hooks in the listener. The riffs come in at the end to give you a tease of what is coming. Pyrogenesis has a wide range from both the music and vocals.  There is a mix of furious riffs, head banging parts, but with a melodic edge.  Vocally it's really good and there are some chanting sections on some of the songs, such as Nine Moons . The pace frequents from fast to mid, and pausing for slow sombre tones.  In some parts it even felt grungy in sound, so there is a lot of various influences and creativity behind the music. The majo...

MUCK SCROLL POSTS COMING UP!

Image
What up Bogs! Be on the watch for the Muck Scroll series. They are super short bog spews from the muck revolving around bands/artists early releases.  Some of which may no longer be active, but the bogs spat them out to be shared. The first wave of Muck Scrolls stink of grindcore, hardcore, hardcore punk, crust punk, dbeat, death metal, and random smells from stoner rock, black metal, and thrash.  Short overviews, not so much on the deep dive side.  #smashthegate #marchto200 #bogwakes #gatheringthetribes #bogstenchmare
