MY OWN WILL (BEATDOWN HARDCORE/DEATH METAL HARDCORE) - MISERY (REVIEW, RELEASED JUNE 4TH, BLEEDING ART COLLECTIVE/BLOOD BLAST DISTRIBUTION)

My Own Will

1. Misery – The title track for the EP. The vocals and breakdowns introduce the hardcore influence running through the EP. Leans heavily to beatdown, some may say deathcore, but more beatdown in Bog's view, and its sick, because it adds that unfiltered stench to the music, which is why Bog is spewing about the EP today from the Bog Lands.

Vocalist holds his notes and tones very well, projection is cool, and he drops in/out with the music, so the track builds solidly. Layering, timing, flows, all run slick. It’s a mid-paced mosh anthem, which is how most of the tracks run.

Some nice samples adding a dark sci-fi edge, which was nice to hear, and it gives a little extra to the track. Think dystopian city, running through an alleyway and 'Uncle Trench Coat' is chasing you, not a situation you really want to be in. Misery has that vibe between urban grit and dystopian horror.

2. Rorschach – Starts with a sick intro, which the riffs take us further in after the brief quiet build, and is leaning on the hardcore side again. Speed drops after the start, and drops to a mid build with strong drums and a notable melody. Transitioning back around at 1.49, which is sick for a pit, then slows again, so the rest period with a few breakdowns. Bog appreciated the track, but the high paced parts were our fave sections, and grabbed the ears much more. Nice melody in the background hinting at that dystopian feel again, which works very well.

3. Forsaken – Banger from the EP. Strong hardcore build from the first minute, then the riffs are signalling with the vox to prep up to jump the f up. Bog can see the pit going off to Forsaken. Built for circle pits, walls of deaths, and asking someone to hold a ladder whilst you climb up, then jump off below to the pit to bounce off an inflatable pit catcher device. Sick beatdown drop 2.30 ish. Ok, calming for a moment, Bog is a little powerboat amped up, but Bog feels Forsaken is the pit anthem track. You will know when you hear it, if you catch My Own Will on the tour in a few days, then this is the one to get it.

Vocals, audio, drums, guitars, sign on/off nicely. Good beatdown feel. Forsaken is well packaged. Executes the change ups nicely with some real dirty ass pit moments. The production is sick and balanced.

4. Phobos – F*cking Mars itself grows an arm and f*cking swipes Phobos, like f*ck outta my zone rocky ass space flying thing. Bog isn’t a scientist, words be hard, but Phobos sounds like that with the break down, like My Own will are kicking it outta the orbit with mosh boots.

Musically, another breakdown heavy track with a nice brief blast beat attack 1.11-118. Solid drums, hardcore influenced vocals, riffs, and timing flows well.

Rating – Bog enjoyed My Own Will’s; 'Misery'. The riffs, transitions, breakdowns, drums, intros and outros run smooth. Vocalist also holds his notes well. He does a solid job of providing the anger on top of the music. Bog feels the higher tempo sections on Rorschach and Phobo’s brief blast beat attack really shine for the band. Bog would love to hear more of the faster paced sections developed into a full track. It would be a cool mix with their signature sound to hear the aggression unleashed further with some in your face powerboat speed.

That said, Misery is a solid EP and is bad ass for the pits. Worth a listen if you enjoy mucking around in the Bog Lands and making a splash with our shitty water. Sick pit music.
