(MUCK POOL NEWS) CAVERNOUS MAW (DEATH METAL) — "ANCESTRAL LANDS BEYOND THE ANTARCTIC ICE WALL" EP RELEASE AND NEW SINGLE DETAILED

Minneapolis death metal duo Cavernous Maw has released their brand-new video and single, "The Yeti Approaches the Wall," serving as the lead track from their sophomore EP, Ancestral Lands Beyond the Antarctic Ice Wall, out now as of October 27, 2026. Formed by longtime collaborators Niilo Smith (Vocals/Guitar) and Ben Fagerness (Drums), the two-piece act blends relentless death metal intensity with unexpected black metal and technical death metal elements, building upon the raw foundation of their debut EP, Primitive.

The new concept-driven record follows a yeti's path of discovery beyond the boundaries of his known world, serving as a broader metaphor for pushing past personal limitations and the pursuit of knowledge. To capture an authentic sound, the EP was tracked largely live in the band's rehearsal space before vocals were added.
On the writing process behind the new single, drummer Ben Fagerness comments:
“The Yeti Approaches the Wall was the first song we wrote for our next EP. It started as nearly all of our songs do, the two of us jamming in the practice space, locking onto a riff and expanding it. The arrangement and drum parts were carefully crafted to keep the energy flowing from beginning to end. Lyrically, the song is about exactly what the title suggests: a yeti approaching a wall. Whether that wall is physical or mental is up to the listener.”
Looking toward the future of the project, the band adds:
“We absolutely love this new EP record, and we hope fans will too. “It's a more mature expansion of our original vision. Fans can expect a lot more music from Cavernous Maw in the future.”
