(BOG REVIEW) "DEMONWARP" - "VIRAL EMPIRE" (DARK ELECTRO/INDUSTRIAL, RELEASED SEPTEMBER 25TH, RE:MISSION ENTERTAINMENT)
Stenchers, this is an album Bog really wanted to deep dive, but it's an insanely busy period at the moment, so it’s a quick breakdown special.
Mood: What Bog feels from just the music for the pure vibe with no external influences: futuristic, dystopian sci-fi and cyberpunk horror/space horror all in one.
3. Spreading The Flames. Stomp-fest track. Sick, dark synth lines, which bring alive the secret rave under the city while the flames spread above. The vox samples contribute to the mood, and the main drop is good, which had Bog’s jaw dropping again. Bog is picking up his jaw as he scribes.
4. Suffocate Me. Piano keys start the intro, and the vox drop in smooth AF, and it syncs to build to the drop extremely well. Mid-paced feel. Chorus, "Suffocate Me." Bog cannot get cyborgs and digital, sentient beings out of his head while listening to this. The breakdown cyber/synth line—Bog is still amped about it! Suffocate Me would be so good for coordinating stomps.
5. Decimation. Cinematic interlude with hook-worthy immersion. Some folks may skip it, but Bog would advise not to do so, because it would ruin the whole flavor.
6. Feed. The drum build is really good and takes us to the drop, which is space horror of feet-stomping proportions! It's engineered and structured incredibly well to immerse us again in the experience. Outro bars are fire.
7. Parasite Code. Vocal intro: “Humans are the most dangerous virus on this planet.” The vox word "virus" is repeated and would be so sick to finger-drum the s-h-i-t out of that line to scare a room. Parasite Code is a very dark, sinister track with nasty, heavy beats.
Ohhhhh! The breakdown! It’s like a lab with some secret computer waking up and coming to the vox line’s conclusion. Incredibly dark...
8. Static Screams. #peakstomp track. Take the vibe of Parasite Code and add hellish beats with sinister, dark acid lines and guitar riffs, then the drops hit the ears, and it utterly slays them, slapping them into the next universe with no mercy. Bog jumped around in the swamps to Static Screams. Bad-ass track.
9. Eradicate. Synthy electro #peakstomp to follow up. Bog loved the build to set up the flow. Stenchers, Viral Empire reaches into the mind and doesn’t let go.
10. Cold Revenge. "OOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" "DnB!!!!!!" "Yes!!!!!" Oh, now you've done it, that’s it, no scribing anymore, Bog is up. When this hits, it bangs. As soon as Bog heard this, his ears just perked up.
DEMONWARP!!! Bog can barely make sense of his thoughts, but this is like taking some dark dnb and neurofunk and dropping it with some sinister-ass synth lines. This just roars—it roars and roars.
Bog tries to maintain a sense of decorum for the electronic side of music, but cannot do it for this one. This slaps so much.
Ok, Bog rapid-fire here: Cold Revenge syncs together cleanly, the frequencies are so tight, the drops, acid lines with synth, and dark jungle too. It’s all there. Bog is literally running back from the swamps to scribe some words, then it's move-your-butt time. BANGER<<<<<
11. Protocol Obey (Frontal Boundary Remix). It's stompy, but Bog prefers the original, which is darker, heavier, and more sinister, but this is a sure, solid stomp track for the feet.
12. Spreading The Flames (Dawn of Ashes Remix). Constructed very well, but it sadly didn’t grab Bog. It’s a slower, calmer stomp and carries the dystopian sci-fi vibe, but the original is much better for Bog’s tastes. The Dawn of Ashes remix focuses more on emphasizing the Blade Runner/cyberpunk vibe and has patient builds, and the drops are sick on the workflow.
13. Spreading The Flames (Dread Risks Remix). Mid-pace stomp. Another that sadly didn’t grab Bog—just prefer the original version—but it's another finely constructed and engineered track. The overall vibe is still there, flows, tight/smooth change-ups, drops, and lines are all on point, it just didn’t grab Bog’s ears.
That said, Viral Empire slays; it was only the last 2 tracks Bog didn’t feel, and it’s a personal taste issue.
Bog’s Thoughts:
Viral Empire slaps. Seriously slaps. The audio is solid AF. The highs, mids, and lows are all crystal-clear fine. The timing, structural organization, syncs—and it doesn’t feel cluttered.
The fire bangers are Protocol Obey (2), Static Screams (8), and Cold Revenge (10) is the ultra banger. Bog is going to take a 6-week retreat to the outer wilds just to recover from the slaying with Cold Revenge.
So, excellent immersive, hook-worthy dystopian, gritty sci-fi-inspired beats that just decimate your ears and the mind easily.
