Stenchers, normally Bog would scribe much more and break
the music down deeper sequencing drops, builds, transitions, and more, but there have been problems with storms and moisture in the
Bog Lands, so it's wading through spew from the swamps before we can return to
the selector lens.
1. Path to the Void - There is a good musical harmony structured around the riffs, which add to the atmosphere with a dark, cinematic tone.
At 3:12, the track flows a little rawer, with the riffing changing to match the transition.
What is apparent already to Bog's muck ears is the time that Theosophy have taken ensuring the EQs are balanced, the vocals and instruments sync, and it is another example of music crafted to an excellent standard to catch the ear.
The outro fade-out was cool, setting up the melodic intro for 2. Birds Under the Sky.
The drum production is pretty good and sounded very soothing in the headphones Bog uses for sets. They are also not drowned out by the music, the vocals sync well, and everything times nicely with the instruments.
It enables Birds Under the Sky to be accessible and enjoyable, which had Bog thinking of nerdy thoughts of mysterious cryptids from snow-covered, unknown lands.
The pace also changes up to add further variety. Just two tracks in, Bog is already immersed in the soundscape.
3. Shadows on the Earth also features good drumming with consistent pacing to present a balanced listen. The outro is an interesting way to fade out, making it overall a fun, enjoyable track.
4. Neptune's Aphelion has a heavier feel, but the atmosphere and cinematic experience haven't dropped. Fourth track in, and it's still immersive. Considering the topics the music explores, it is an ideal score to support the folklore. There is a sick change-up to a different riff pattern and some melodic sections, which help the track remain accessible across a wide dynamic.
Bog also caught a nice solo riff change-up with the guitars, which are well-supported by the drums. For the keen ears, there is a brief traditional heavy metal section carried by the riff notes, which is pretty mega.
5. The Glow of Uch-Sumer - Starts with a folky, melodic hook, which sets up the drop for an epic transition. A slower track, but this one paints a magical set of images through music. Think of vast landscapes accompanied by silence and stillness.
The pace does increase near the end to heighten the emotion and feeling within the music, conveying another solidly constructed and balanced track.
6. Voice From the Black - Is a heavier track to close out the album, which is notable from the drumming patterns and guitar notes at the start.
The timing is very good with Theosophy; there are no mess-ups on the syncs or poorly timed sequences, both with the instruments and vocals.
The serene passages carry an emotive sense before the music changes back to the heavier-toned riff, but still with an underlying mellow feel.
Bog's Thoughts: The first point this muck-ass beast would like to make is that hopefully, for the next release, Bog can dive much deeper into the tracks, as there is a lot to hear and explore.
The album should appeal to more than just metal fans in our opinion, because the level of structuring, composition, and the mixing/mastering project this further. It's like a cinematic, dark score to a sci-fantasy land accompanying a story. Bog argues it's one of the most appealing strengths of Line Before The Event Horizon.
Bog wasn't bored while listening at any point and heard excellent fade-outs on every track.
All that said, there is plenty on offer for both fans of the genre and music heads interested in how music can be arranged to present an audio experience that grips the listener's ears and imagination.
The artwork for the cover is interesting, giving off the mentioned dark sci-fi, future-world vibe that reminded Bog of some of the Bog Lands here.
So, what other takeaways? A musical saga on a grand scale, which we hope our spew hands have managed to stress.
Play it with speakers arranged in different parts of the apartment; it is pretty sick music with an epic theatre vibe.
Shout-out to Theosophy and all involved. Bog hasn’t heard any of your previous music, but it is nice to hear another band step out of the box and do something different with genuine passion and craft.
Bog’s ears appreciated the time and effort you have obviously invested in delivering an enjoyable, immersive, and rewarding listen.
Sick innovation!
