BOG REVIEW - "THE MEDEA PROJECT" - "Komēn: Facets" (DARKWAVE/INDUSTRIAL/EBM/DARK AMBIENT) (RELEASED JUNE 26TH, BDB PRODUCTIONS)

Purgatory Release

Bannnnnggg! Darkwave with some industrial/ebm ish spliced in. Bog has his stomp boots ready, 3, 2, 1, and on the intro let’s go! Bog has been on the cakes a little recently, belly jumped like 10 stomps forward before his big ass feet had even wriggled.

March to 500 steps is the current community campaign and Bog has trouble marching to the grill. Funny, when you shout, ‘Cook ya f*-c-k-e-r-’, the grill just doesn't seem to answer, but turn your head for one second, and it's done compared to when you stand watching it for 10 minutes for nothing to happen.

Bog thinks a golf demon has infected it, because it's the same process. Hours of f*-c-k- all and it causes Bog to lapse into a trance of numbness. Golf, the evil of our times, be careful y'all, that shitty ass sport works its mind prison games.

Ok, enough of the rebellious grills. Let’s cook this music up for y’all.

The intro drum pattern is sick industrial/ebm ish, then the synth line drops at 0:16 to build up to the drums drop at 0:22. It’s a bad ass stomp build to take us into another industrial/synth line drop at 0:38. It helps build the core of the track to take us to the dark vox drop coming next.

Bog was stomping in anticipation, if you cannot guess, yes, the smelly butt head creature was ‘oooo’ and ‘ooooo’. Bog had to do something, the volume was increased, and he was flicking the light switch on and off excitedly. Aside from random light bulb testing, Bog knows this would be another track he could drop in a room to make it go boom and shift the tempo.

When Brett’s vox drop at 1:12, they complete the darkwave/synthwave feel. Bog’s maw was foaming and seeing in his head what you could do with this track live. #tempofloorchange. Vocally, Purgatory Release has a very darkwave/industrial signature with a little punk edge, which always works well with the aforementioned genres. Mid-paced stomp feel and transitions smoothly into the middle section, then the vox return to add the dark mood.

At 2:51, a sick harmony key drops in, which adds a catchy atmospheric hook for the ears. Stenchers, it’s like when you hear those lines drop in darkwave, synth, industrial, EBM, and they add that melody on the dark feels. This<<<<<

Bog fell off his magical device, which he was using to listen to the track. One of the bogoids walked by and said, ‘F*-c-k-’s- up with you?’. Bog, gasping for air, looked up and said, ‘F*-c-k-i-n-g- harmony that just dropped, it’s sick and a sonic wave just hit my belly.’

Anyway… It’s stomp worthy, at 3:24, the vox drop back in, the harmony isolates out, but continues to focus on the stomp. Vocally, the darkwave feels build up again, and then they lead us to the outro bars to close out the track.

At 3:57, the outro drum pattern drops in, matching the intro with the same industrial tone used at the start. This sample would also flow nicely into a cyberpunk set, but Bog is trying to not visualize too loudly, but failing at the same time.

A solid remix with super industrial, synthwave, darkwave, and EBM ish feels. The mixing and mastering is tight with solid frequency levels, and clean audio to preserve the dark feel. Y’all need to hear the drop at 2:51.

Bog liked this track a lot, which should be pretty obvious.

In Purgatory Trapped

The track has a slow down-tempo, super chill vibe, and reminds Bog of a dark electronic label he knows.

Although the pacing isn't what Bog particularly enjoys, he does appreciate the sonic foundation. Bog would drop this track as an outro to close a set, because of the very calming effect it would have on humans, which does match the somber theme of the track.

The piano key structure is cool and works well with the super slow-paced synth. The nerd in Bog was thinking how the track's melody could transition into a lo-fi or a mid-paced drum pattern, which is kudos to the composition and structure.

Also, for those seeking music to help them reflect, or to appreciate quiet time, then "In Purgatory Trapped" is suitable for those moods.

The frequencies are aligned tightly, there are no low audio drops, and Bog’s magical device’s headphones detected no issues. Low, mid, and high are all tight, and the harmony at the early part of the track flows into the middle section to close with the fade out.

Bog's Thoughts: Bog has always enjoyed and appreciated The Medea Project. They step outside genre boundaries and smash down the walls. Whatever genres they blend, the dark mood and atmosphere are always present.

The flow and build across both tracks was synced excellently. Yes, we enjoyed Purgatory Release more than In Purgatory Trapped, but "Komēn: Facets" is a sonically thought-driven EP containing feeling, mood, and depth.

The Medea Project gives us dark electronic music from minds not afraid to venture outside the box.
